royal blue vs blue

I have both royal blue and blue (I think) cree xp-e's on my diy build but they dont look much different. Is there a visiable difference when you are looking at them on the heatsink? I don't notice any difference. Anyone have the same problem?

There is a big difference when I look at them on my AI SOL Blue. The regular Blue LED is more of a true blue color temp, but the Royal Blue LED is more of a deep blue that is almost purple.

Check out youtube.com

Its quite difficult to get a photo of the LEDs with my camera, it doesnt seem to like it at all.

This is about the best I can get, there are 2 different blues, royal blue and 2 different whites.

Blues only before optics went on.

Before the optics went on you couldnt really tell the difference, but now that they are on its easy to tell the difference between the RB and B's

Its very hard to tell the diff with naked eye or on auto camera mode. I hade to adjust brightness/shutter speed to see the purple in the royal blue.

So is it worth adding some regular blue Crees to my diy fixture that already has royal blue? Will it add any additional coral florescence?

The addition of blue LEDs is not to improve the viewing of the tank. They are added to more closely match the natural light spectrum that the corals are attuned too. They do not add any additional florescence to the tank.

Cheers,

Jason

1. Kelvin rating...????

2. How much watt per gallon is required if using leds ?

Kelvin rating is not used with blue LEDs, and is not important to the performance of the fixture.

Watts per gallon is irrelevant with LED lighting. It depends on how much square footage you are trying to cover, how deep the tank is, how high the lights are from the tank, and the actual light output of the individual types of emitter used.

It's best you start your own thread with a list of your tank dimensions and the needed features and details...
