royal gamma color adult versus juvenile

So I went into the LFS the other day and they had a larger Royal Gamma. I always like the fish but just thought they where not much to look at until I seen what I am guessing now was a adult RG. The front fins had bright pink and blue and the purple and yellow seemed much more vibrant. When I went back for the fish it had been sold. The other 2 they had when I went back where juveniles and there color was a duller purple and yellow and the front fins where the same color as the body.

My question is was I looking at a certain gender or is the adult coloring different then the juveniles.

I have 2 adult royal grammas and they are different in vibrancy. One is very vibrant purple and yellow, while the other is very dull in comparison. Got them both as adults so I'm not sure how vibrant they were when they were juveniles.

I have seen both vibrant and dull colored grammas. Within the same species, just as other fish can have both "dull " and "vibrant" However, there might have been a mix up with a "bi-color pseudo", which can look like the gramma. Other variation, but is a completely different color scheme would be the black cap, or as stated above, the Brazillian gramma.
