Royal Gramm vs Black Cap Basslet

I am interested in both fish but know I can only get one for my tank. I like the Royal Gramma better but hate the idea that I will not see it most of the time. Is the Black cap more likely to roam the tank or will it hide as much as the Royal Gramma?

when i had my goyal gramma it was almost always in the open and when ever i would stop and stare at my tank he would come out and swim up to me.

It depends on what tankmate it has in the tank. my royal gramma is in the open area almost all the time.

Once the Royal Gramma becomes comfortable in your tank, you'll likely see it much of the time, assuming it's not being constantly threatened by another fish. They are one of my favorite reef fish.

yeah, the blackcaps are definitely more secretive. A friend of mine had one that always ended up in his sump-- somehow made it over the overflow, through the plumbing AND driplate! We never could figure out how he did it.

BTW, after a couple weeks in my tank my RG was always out hovering in the middle of the tank or hanging out by the acros.

I expect delivery of the RG tomorrow. Hope all goes well. He'll be in a 120g tank along with a 3" yellow tang, 2"sailfin tang, a coral Beauty, 6 line wrasse, and a maroon clown all of which are a little over 1". I'm getting a small Foxtail tomorrow too. I'm sure he'll be ok. There is more than enough caves in the LR.
