Royal gramma bad idea

Ive kept royal grammas with fairies, flashers, pencil, possums and all kinds of Halichoeres wrasses without issue. As long as they're not the big, predatory, aggressive species like lunares, I don't think you would have any problem. Good luck, royal grammas are one of my favorites

Thanks for the reply, would love to see some pics if you have them.

same here. i have a royal gramma with a yellow fin flasher wrasse and a red velvet fairy wrasse. never a problem.

I have never seen a gramma not get along, except with maybe another gramma. One of my favorite fishes. Common, inexpensive, colorful and full of personality. What more could you ask for?

I have a RG with a Hoeven's Wrasse. Currently squashed in a 10g QT with 3 PJ Cardinals. Even in these cramped quarters no issues at all.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. It's hard to believe in 14 years I've never had a royal gramma.

One of my favorite fishes, and I have always kept them in groups of three or more, depending on tank size, with them never showing any serious aggression, nor suffering much from any other fishes (within reason of course)... :)

This group of five has been together for more than 2 years with the pair of cherub angels, first in a 29g, and then moved into the current 40B in a Caribbean gorgonian biotope.

WOW thats a great lookin tank you have there! Ive thought of doin a carribean tank as well

I have a gramma in a 25 rimless with only a clown and he only shows territorial agression when the clown gets too close to his cave. other than that hes peaceful and minds his own business

I loved mine, until he took a magic carpet ride :( I would say be sure to have a tight fitting lid but with wrasses I assume you already do. Good Luck!

Thanks, and yes, they are protective when it comes to their "bolt hole", especially in nano aquariums. In a tank that size (~20g), I have kept up to three, but only with a lot of live rock.

Yes, they are prone to jumping when first added to the aquarium, especially in smaller tanks. I have a full glass top on all of my tanks for a reason (other than to cut down on evaporation)... ;)

I have one w my wrasses, it gets along fine! Seriously, I never owned one before... I have been missing out!!!

You just convinced me to add a couple more to my tank to go w the one I have... Should I add, 1 or 2?? Will the established one have a problem w this?

I've got one in my 260 FOWLR with a 6" harlequin tusk, red coris, juvi dragon, and several large angels and tangs. He holds his own and is savvy enough to stick close to his bolt hole, but still spends plenty of time in the water column. Great fish, and my daughter's favorite. I've been contemplating adding a blackcap basslet as well or a purple pseudochromis, but am concerned about conspecific aggression with the blackcap, or the purple pseudo acting like a pseudo (though the are suppose to be mellow as pseudos go). I think my tank is big enough, but my gramma's bolt holl is right in the center of the tank so I worry that there won't be enough free territory on either side for the newcomer.
