Royal Gramma - have flakey on head and under jaw?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

not sure if this problem is a trate of the royal grammy.. (if spelling is bad i'm sleepy..sorry)

1. State the problem as you see it and provide details.
- our royal gramma has been in our QT for about 12 days now.. and i noticed on its head. and under his jaw like flacky skin.. it looks like when we get a sun burn and your start to flake..

2. List symptoms...white spots, not eating, labored breathing, etc.
nope

3. How long the fish has been exhibiting these symptoms.
- just saw it today.

4. What is in the tank; other fish, live rock, corals, inverts.
- pcp pipe and a small LR

5. State the tank size, and how long the tank has been up and running.
- 10 G QT, about 2 months..

5. Diet; what are you feeding the fish, and do you use any supplements like selcon, zoe, zoecon or garlic.
- flaks and pelets, same as our clown fish in our DT.

6. How long have you had the particular fish and have there been any new additions.
- only one in QT

7. Was the fish quarantined prior to placing it in your main tank, and do you have a quarantine tank that you can use? EVERYONE SHOULD!!!)
- doing that NOW. '

8. Have you tried any treatments thus far before posting here. And, if so, describe what you have done.
- NOPE

9. Water parameters!!! ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, temperature and salinity. These are very important to know. Please don't say "my water quality is good". Give real numbers. It could be the key to solving the problem.
- ammonia - 0
- nitrite - 0
- nitrate - 2
- ph - 8.3
- temp - 80-82
- salinity 1.024

Thanks for help

Temp could be a little lower, but not a factor in this case. Do the white spots look like salt grains or powder? If it's ich or velvet treat it.

Ok we talked to a number of LFS and we did a freshwater dip.. then we saw the full extent to our poor fishy.. as you will notice almost like little bubbles on him.. after about 2 min they started to come off (and then he started swiming around the bucket..before that he was like left to almost dead), we left him in there for about 6 min.. then put him back in his QT.. once back in there he started to swim around for a bit.. then headed back to his PVC pipe...

From the pictures you posted I think your fish had flukes. Treat with antibiotics for possible secondary bacterial infection.

Furan2 is a good antibiotic. It comes in packets now and very easy to use. Treat for seven days. Don't feed during treatment as ammonia will start to build up in the QT. Have water ready for water changes. Still keep an eye on the ammonia level.

Sorry for your loss. Just chalk it up to experience. Replace when you feel your ready. Are the other fish okay? Believe me when I tell you even the most experinced hobbyist lose fish. So don't feel bad. You did everything possible to save the fish.
