rtn contagious?

I'm just wondering if rtn can spread from one coral to the next? Seems like if you get a bad frag that stn or rtn it always causes another acro to start. I'm wondering if they aren't releasing some toxin like a leather or maybe its just the ammonia spike? I hate taking sick frags cause I'm always so worried it might trigger a massive tank crash.

I've never experienced that at all. Usually if it happens it's only to the frag and never anything established in my tank. I'd take a guess that if that's happening it's something to do with the tank vs the rtn in general.

Curious to see if others experience the same as you..

I think it can be contagious but don't have any scientific data to support it. Anecdotally, we had purchased an acro frag at a local swap and it RTN'ed within 24 hours of putting in our tank. Within 2 days we lost a Hawkins colony and a volleyball size birdnest colony. Those were the only cases of RTN we ever had in that tank so it seemed pretty coincidental to me. Again, no scientific data to support the hypothesis.
