Your magnesium may be out of whack. Test it.
one thing, say it was a rtn caused by bacteria. Would that bacteria affect new healthy frags put into the tank? I had an alk swing and i had some rtn/stn but i bought a healthy frag and has all PE and full color and skin so far. i have a giant blue millie colony that lost tissue in random spots but the weird thing is it put out tiny nubs that are the only thing growing while other pieces are still dyeing.

Btw I did a 10% water change today and changed my carbon today. I have been bringing up the mag slowly. It was at 1220 on saturday and 1280 today

I would get it up to around 1400-1500 ppm.

I have been trying to get that up for a while and I have never got it above 1300. I've used tropic marin and kent products. I have looked at brs but it's a bit confusing w/ the two different types along with the ratio's. the threads I read make it seem like a kalk mix or something. What products would you recommend for to raise the mag

Any recommendations to raise the mag? I'm all out of a mag suppliment. The arm for cal reactor says it will raise it. But my cal is only at 400 and my mag dropped to 1140 today. Good news is I have been maintaining a dkh of 9. But I have other corals that are rtn. Any ideas what I can do? I'm affraid my corals are going to die.

I'm going to lfs today and will p/u some of the Kent. Does anyone know if the coarse arm media for a calcium reactor just raises alk and not as much for the calcium? The reason is I switched from the fine media wich worked great. Or am I better off using both? My calcium keeps dropping and everytime I turn up the co2 the alk raises but not the calcium. I have been adding the bionic cal to help raise it. I also know that the mag helps keep the calcium in suspension for the corals to absorb it. But how can they absorb it if it isn't there to begin with. Thanks,

Went to the lfs yesterday and brought a water sample to compair notes. My mg is at 1400 , ca 440, dkh10. I had them double check the tests and all came back exactlythe same. Maybe my salifert mg is bad idk. Since all my parameters are good I'm still having tissue loss at the base my recent victim is my digi that I hadto frag at the base. This is leading me to thinkits bacteria. Am I jumping the gun or should I wait it out to see what happens? Or can I be proactive and with what?

if your mag is below 1300 your will experiance swings in cal and alk.
