I have used the momentive rtv 108/103 and am considering to switching to scs1200, i see the cure time is much faster and the cost is cheaper and also the strength is higher, anybody have expierience wwith this?
Most of these silicone manufacturers state that 1/4" is max thickness, i do know that these silicones are being used for tanks using 3/4"+ glass. What i have been doing, say im assembling a tank with 1/2" glass, i assemble the tank and do not put the inner seal in, i mask the glass to the edge of the seam before i assemble then clear away the access and remove the masking, i let the structural seams cure for 2 or 3 days and then put the inner seal in. I just find it takes a really long time for the silicone to cure if i do it all in one go. Doing it all in 1 go I have removed silicone that has been set for a month on a test piece that was still uncured on the inside corner(where most of the stress would be on a rimless tank). Plus doing it this way allows me to never foul up an inside seal, when putting a tank together and doing it all in one go its way too much of a hurry for me(especially handling pieces of glass that are hundreds of dollars a piece), these types of silicone skin over almost instantly it.... Are there any drawback to doing the structural seam and the inside seal in 2 steps? I have had really good luck using this method.
It allows me to go slower and pay more attention to details like getting seams with no air bubbles and having the correct 1/16" structural seam thickness.
