Rubber Pad To Absorb Vibrations From Pump

Hey RC,

I just installed a mag2400 and the thing vibrated on the bottom glass. Since the pump doesn't come with little rubber legs, what could I use that is safe for my reef to place under the pump. It is in my sump. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
R.W.

I use a pad that is at Home Depot, that is used to cushion where you stand. It has a diamond pattern, and is made of PVC (although it feels like rubber), it is easy to cut, and is about 1/2" thick, and works great.

i used a ziplock bag full of argonite. Its perfectly safe to use and if the bag were to break open somehow, there are no ill effects to be had. Also considering i had everything sitting around the house, it was relatively cheap.

Guess it depends on the mousepad some are made of neoprene same as wet suits, I'd get some of the cut to fit filter pads like poly filter and use that.

Silicone is the best material IMHO, mouspads are neoprene usually but it can become brittle over time and disintegrate. I bought a Silicone wineglass dryer at Target cheap and cut it into multiple pieces and it makes an excellent waterproof vibration damper, especially because it is ribbed. I went with a Laguna MaxFlo 1500 pond pump which has no base so this worked really well as a base/vibration damper:

A simple silicone trivet would work too. Filter pads work well but they collect detritus even if not in high flow and might need to be cleaned occasionally.

Thankyou, that is an excellent idea. I am going to Walmart to look for one now.
Thanks for all the advice guys.

Put some mounting legs/dots on the pump with a silicon glue gun!!! works perfect for my mag 12
