Rubbermaid Reef

ive noticed that when those black spine urchins get real hungry, they'll eat anything calcareous.
don't fall asleep while soaking your pretty model hands in that salt water!

The gobies really did that much damage? Damn I have a few in my 500 havnt noticed them that destructive ..... Now Im bummed

I've kept yellow clown gobies in my sps tanks many times and never had them do any damage. They will clear an area of coral flesh to lay eggs but the coral doesn't seem to care very much...
Maybe if you have a bunch of them and only one acro, they may cause some damage..

The urchins, on the other hand, when they are hungry they'll eat acros. Or they'll eat the acro skeleton..

The gobies were not the issue--it was the long spined urchin, Ernesto, which is now in the sump. The Sunset monti and pink lemonade are recovering. Surprisingly, the Papa Smurf stump has living tissue left!

Thanks for clearing that up I put about 8 gobies in my 500 awhile back thinkin it was beneficial to the acros ..... Later seeing it's not really :( I do have a tons of acros so there's plenty of colonies for them to mess with ..... Sorry don't mean to steal your thread

I am using a 50 gal for my acros too, very fun to watch from top! Unfortunatly i have to turn all the pumps off to see anything, and is hard to keep the water inside the tank with so much flow. I am keeping mainly thick branching nubby corals though and its packed in there pretty good.
Looking forward to your rubbermaid updates!

You can always use those look down viewers so you don't have to shut power flow off.
