Rubble or livesand in overflow?

Would it be okay to put rubble in the overflow without fear of holding too many bad things?

Of course, I'd supplement the rubble with a few hermits to eat the detritus.................but yes or no? bad idea?

What kind of overflow are we talking about? Hang on Back? In tank? etc...

in tank, corner overflow in a perfecto 65g.

Personally i wouldn't recommend putting rubble rock in there, for this main reason, if you need to adjust or even repair the durso or standpipe (or whatever else you may be using in there), you will have to deal with removing all the rock and it may cause more headaches than anything else. Just a thought, hope this helps.

I also wouldn't put rubble in the overflow, definitely not sand. Mainly for the reasons that atwinparadox2 mentioned but it would be even worse with sand. If you pulled out the standpipe the sand would just go down the drain line and possibly clog it big time. Could be quite the hassle. If I were you, I'd just pick up an extra 5-10g tank and use it as a rubble rock/dsb area. Just plumb it inline with your sump. (assuming you're running a sump)

i wouldnt add anything to the overflow, the last thing you want is a blockage, best to forget that idea and think of alternate ways of achieving more biological filteration

I've got a 55g fuge/sump, so I'm not so sure anything additional will be needed, but I figured I'd ask.

The fuge will have a 5-6" dsb.

thats good news, sounds like the set up is a very good one, so looks like everything is in place

It's getting there. Still need to build the hood, pick up a DC-8 for the aquacontroller, and get a skimmer.

But my livestock is fat and happy in the 30g we've had set up for a few months.
