rules for clownfish changing sex?

Hello all reefers :)

So from the research I've done it's my understanding that when clownfish are born they are genderless. The most dominant of the pack will change into the female and then the next highest up will change into a male and establish a hierarchy from there down. So as i understand it, if a female dies then the lead male of the pack will turn into the female and the hierarchy will step up in rank from there. So can a female change into a male if there were two females in the same tank.

So basically: clownfish can change from genderless to male, can change from genderless to female, and can change from male to female. But a female can't change to a male correct?

A female can not change to a male, 2 females will fight until one kills the other if I'm not mistaken.

Awesome thanks for the insight!
So my next question would be what would be the best way to try and introduce a new clown to the tank to hopefully pair up with the already existing one? **it's a true onyx percula and has been alone in the tank for at least a year since I've owned it, and is roughly about 2.5" - 3" in size... is there any way to definitively know is its a male or female?
What's your best advice/tips/tricks f9r introducing another clown?

After being alone, most likely you have a female. I would pick up a small perc and add him. They should pair up almost right away. The size difference seems to really be the trick.

Okay great thank you for the insight! I'm really hoping to get her paired up with another awesome fish :)
