Has anyone succesfully run a small tank, (mine will be 5 gals) without a filter? i am aking this because i want to keep the clutter to a minimum, i dont want a bulky HOB filter, plus i want to keep the noise down because this will be next to my head board so i dont want to have niose from a filter. i wand to have probably 2 PH's for crculation, and maybe sponges on the intakes for SOME mechanical filtation. i want to ba able to keep some xenia, colt, and kenya trees, in there from my 55 gal. Thanks.

My 5.5 has no filtration other than live rock. I do a 1 gallon waterchange weekly.

any pics of the 5.5? what livestock do you have in it? and how long has it been running? thanks, sorry for all the questions.

i was wondering about that too...i have a 24g aquapod and was thinking on taking off the sponge, dont like it, but dunno if the liverocks should be enough for filtration...

Yes, the live rock is completely enough filtration. Just make sure you have the 1.5-2lbs per gallon and you'll be fine. Not to mention the live sand and powerheads blow through. Just do a weekly water change if water turns yellow, toss a aquaclear with some carbon on for a day.

right on, didn't know it was so new. Heres a pic of my 20 gal with an aquaclear with carbon and powerheads to circulate. Pic is kind of old, from when I moved it from MI to AZ in September.
