I was wondering if there a way to add an external pump on my glass sump with out drilling a hole? Can I just run pipe up and over and out to the pump? Or is that to much to prime?
interested in knowing...I would think you could self prime it like an overflow tube, once there is water flowing the pump will pull it. I'm not sure if it would hold the siphon in an event of power loss
Ya that's what I was thinkin kinda like an over flow type thing. Power outages would suck so I would have to put some sort of float switch to not burn it out. Ima try it out.
you could get a self priming pump. i use to use them at an old job i had, just put the hose in the hole and turn on the pump. they are a pretty noisy until they prime though

A lot of the sponsors sell self priming pumps and swing check valves (marindepot, F&S, Thatfishplace, BRS, etc) or any other online retailer.
In my early days I did a closed-loop with a pvc overflow pipe that had a removable screw on cap on the top that was used to prime it. I think a check valve would help if doing this for a return pump but I'm not sure if I would risk doing it....
It depends on the pump. I've run my panworld pump suction line up and over the top of my sump for approx 7 years. It has no problem self priming with no check valve after being shut off. Just make sure the pump is mounted below the water line.
