Running Canister Filter in Sump

I just setup my 10 gallon sump under my 60 gallon tall tank (2 month old reef tank). I was running and EHEIM 250 before and was hoping to run it through my sump now for extra filtration and to hide it.

The canister is filled with eheim mech and substrate pro. What would be safe and/or necessary to run in the canister filter? Should I run Carbon in it?

I would also eliminate it, as its not necessary and is just a nitrate trap that you need to keep constantly clean.

Thanks. I guess I wont run it. I change my filter socks every couple of days and have a sponge that slides down in-between two baffles. What method and how often should I clean the sponge?

Is this enough as far as filtration? Should I throw a bag of carbon or purigen in there?

I would change the sponge the same as the socks.

As far as carbon goes, it is best done in a reactor. It doesn't need to be fancy, but it works best in a reactor and as pelletized carbon, not granular. The granular in a reactor can channel out and doesn't keep it all fluidized as well as the pellet kind.

This is a simple reactor that will work
