running carbon

What does everyone use for running gac. I was using a emperor 280 but it was a real pain in the butt to get it out from my sump for maintenance. I have a 30g pinched under a 75 so space is somewhat at a premium. Any ideas?

I run my AC in a Emporer 280 also, it works great for me and mine is very easy to get to.

The emperor was great until I had to remove it from my sump which is a real hassle, ie moving the sump with water in it little by little til I can basically force the 280 in and out. Was looking for something smaller, maybe a phosban reactor but wasn't sure if it would hold enough media.

I hang a bag in the sump.... I had thought about build a DIY chamber... but too much hassle. So, I hang a bag in the sump.

Do you buy the AC in the bag or buy the AC to put in bags. If so what kind of bags.

I just use media bags from the LFS.

Does using it passively with the bags work well? I always thought active was the way to go.

I would have no way to make a reasonable comparisson I have nerver done it any other way. I am not even sure if I could qantify or qualify if it works at all. I just run it!

jbeltman, I also have a 30 under a 75, and I use a phosban reactor to run the carbon. Cheap, easy, hangs on the edge of the 30.
