Running GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide)

Does this have to be used with a phosban reactor? I have a Marineland Penguin 200 I could use with a media bag. Would that do as good a job?
I would buy the reactor if its better...

From what I understand, as long as you have a system set up so water cannot bypass the GFO it should work just as well as a reactor. I think the Marineland with a media bag full of PhosBan would act as a makeshift reactor. I've seen some DIY reactors that worked in this manner.

Would you possibly have a link for the makeshift reactor?

I am not familiar with a Marine Penquin 200 - but its common for people to run GFO in various canister filters.
