Running heater all year long

Just wondering if I can turn off the heater. I have a few soft coral. It is mainly a fish tank.

Thanks.

I wouldn't unplug your heater yet. There could still be some cold spells. I usually only unplug my heater when it's closer to summer.

You really should run it all year. The idea is to keep the temp as stable as possible. You want it so you do not see big temp swings at night. It may not actually turn on much.

Even though you are not running an sps tank, stability is always a good thing. Even in a fish only set up your fish will be less susceptible to to diseases especially ich.

I agree with keeping it in there a lil longer. Last night was just plain fricken cold! When my tank was mostly softies I could tell that the tank was cold just by looking at the shrooms. They noticably react to temp drops. Probably around mid May will be the time to unplug em.

The only reason why I unplug them during the summer is to prevent accidental turn on of the heater. But if you are 100% that your heater won't fail - it makes no difference if you unplug them or not.

I am thinking about starting a heater exchange business with the folks 'down under.' No sense having idle heaters all summer when they could be put to good use you know. :)
