The reason we say these things is becuase we care about the fish and the aquarist, and dont want to see things end badly. With very large tanks, 2 mature pairs can work, but that is not the rule.
Just FYI Gigantia is spelled Gigantea.
Such a swell guy!! and so helpful on the spelling!! I think this was the same guy that told me that the different anemones I have had in the same tank for a decade were doomed and the clown pairs I had in the two different anemone species that were close enough to touch for several years defied the laws of physics and the doctrines of nine of the world’s religions. :spin3:
When I find the right pair I will post video, OK i don't have a digital video cam yet but it is on my list along with finding the right pair of black saddlebacks. I looked at a pair today, too expensive and not real healthy looking... Oh well. I did grab a faded green Gygantia today that i have added to one of my systems to see if i can turn him around.
You are right about one thing, I have not done this in a tank as small as a 40, I have done it multiple times in larger tanks with very long term success and no failures. Doing it in a large tank would not prove my point. You would say what you said above that it is an exception. The 40 will nullify that point - if the maroons that lived peacefully for years in a LT next to a pair of BSBs in an XL S Haddoni for several years before the Haddoni was sold have not already nullified it. By the way that Haddoni lived in fish tanks for ~ 15 years with three owners before expiring after being returned to a LFS. How much longer is that than the amount of time you have spent in the hobby? I think a bit of humility and respect are in order.
