Sacramento Gyre Discussion

I am now thinking about getting the gyre 170 when it comes out in the first quarter of next year and moving this 150 in my frag tank. I am assuming the 170 will be longer and will cover more of the width of my tank.

Yup, that is exactly the one I am looking to purchase also. It is going to be 70 or 75 watts compared to the 50 watt that you currently own.

So how are these working for people, iching to get one but wanting the bugs worked out 1st. Seen the had a mod to quiet them down, not "noisy" untill 70%+ power.

For those running bare bottom, why not put this at the bottom of the tank? Seems like it would feed the overflow and keep the particles off the bottom too.

It would probably also keep my frags off the bottom. If I crank it up too high the frags fly across the bottom of the tank as is with it higher up.

A lot of bugs got worked out prior to the opening of beta testing and got listed in our manuals. I was very impressed to see my concerns were addressed prior to even receiving the beta model.

The blades are not super strong when it comes to things getting sucked in (but what pump is), so if any coral that could enter fell down and got sucked in.. you'd be looking at replacing that side of the unit.

Little birdy told me there might be one of these in the Raffle at the MARS Xmas party. .

Also a few at your reef next week.

Ok I would suggest taking this thing apart a few times. After I put it back together for the third time it is a lot quieter. Only problem I have right now is if I run it below 50% it shuts off for a few minutes from time to time and then turns back on. Probably have to take it apart again. Its so much quieter now I kinda think I will leave it for a while. The flow is excellent.

One of the posts said, some have burrs of plastic in the cages that rub when spinning and sanding/filing them down quiets it a lot.

Whatever I did. I somehow managed to turbocharge reverse gear. At 10% its all the flow my tank can handle. Strange, but i'll take it. I need to make a video.
