I bought some zoas from a seller on this site and they arrived today. They were shipped priority and it took them 3 days to get here (WY to CA). I opened the bags and they smelled RANCID. They haven't opened yet and I'm wondering if they ever will. I know I have to give them time, but that smell really worries me. How long should I give them? I've never ordered zoas in the mail so I'm not sure how this goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Next time use express mailing.

They were rotten. Discard them.
Now usps and any other shipping takes two or more days (Sure including USPS express) is very dangerous try to ship coral.
It is totally because of hot air of their shipping truck. Driver has air conditional at their driving room but no air condition in the room for package.
Means put on package on this hot truck for all day..
Imagine... Water temp goes upper around 100 or more..
Frags should be dead and rotten.
If shipper use cool pack and good condition of styrofoam box, just USPS express can be fine but nobody gurantee it.
Now is the season should use overnight guranteed shipping.
Summer is much more dangerous than winter to ship live corals.

FYI, most commercial airlines do not ship their mail or packages in pressurised airplanes. so when the plane is at cruising altitude, the temperature drops. Sometimes to almost freezing. That's why (depending what the temp on the ground is) it's always smart to use heat packs throughtout the year. If it's hot on the ground (80-100 degrees at both locations) then you might be able to get away with just packing them tightly.
Give the zoas some time. They might surprise you.
