Sad Story of a Struggling Snowflake Clownfish - Video

I had a thriving tank that was running on a HOB filter (Aquaclear). I decided some time ago to upgrade it to a sump as I had some space in my stand and wanted to get everything out of the tank I could as well as run a skimmer.

My eshopps nano overflow came in and I proceeded to install the sump. I also installed a eshopps nano skimmer as well as some chaeto from another tank. I moved my EHeim from the display to the sump.

Two hours later, everything seemed to be working great. I added some more dead rock to rescape the tank and thought I was done. I went to sleep.

I woke up the next day and saw my Valentini puffer on it's side unresponsive. I took him out immediately and thought he was a goner but he actually looked like he was still breathing. I moved him to another tank. He had a few sudden darts in the new tank, survived for about 30 minutes then completely expired.

I then saw that one of my snowflakes was also lying on the sand almost as if he was sleeping. I knew this was bad news at 11am so I moved both fish to my coral only tank.

I'm not sure what caused this. The tank has near perfect readings with a bit of ntirates the day before. The cleaner shrimp in there is doing fine as well as some of the snails and hermit crabs. I threw in some carbon in the sump and I'll have to figure out what the hell happened to this tank that was fine. The readings from a few minutes ago are fine, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 20ppm nitrates. This is a fish only tank.

The sump is a Fluval Chi that I had been using for freshwater up until a few days ago. I rinsed it out well and cleaned it with vinegar. The return pump is also a pump that came directly from a thriving tank as well. It's bare bottom, no sand.

The fish seems to be struggling now and I don't expect him to make it. Here is some video and two photos. :headwalls:

Interestingly, her mate hasn't left her side even to eat in the last 24 hours.

It was actually rock from aquatecture, ceramic molds. Used this rock before on other tanks and actually had a much larger piece I used in another tank in the same shipment. I rinsed both rocks and allowed them to dry first. They're inert.
