Safe backup system

I am trying to build a backup power supply for my tunze 6100 pump. Is it simple as buying a tunze switch, car battery (sealed), and a trickle charger?

Any extra information would be appreciated.

That is correct, a car battery may be a bit much, for a 6055 or 6105 the amp hours of the battery is about the number of hours it will run, a 6055 uses a bit less than an amp and a 6105 uses about 1.2 at 12V. You could use a small gel cell battery of about 8-12 amp hours in most cases.

I bought a car inverter last winter but never used it, could this replace the tunze switch or does it work in some other manner?

How is the tunze switch different from an inverter?

No, it won't work, the 6100 would require an inverter as it runs on AC. However, the 6101 and 6105 use DC so no inverter is needed, it runs directly off the battery.

I have a car inverter, can I hook the 6100 up to the inverter, which is connected to the battery? Would I still need the tunze switch?

I am guessing this method would drain power much faster.

The switch is only an automatic switch from the power supply to the battery when the power fails. It won't work with a 6100. In this case you would use your inverter and have to manually connect the battery and inverter in case of a power failure. Yes, the life will be about half as the inverter has a fair amount of power consumption on it's own and there are losses from converting to DC to AC.
