Getting back into SPS's again and am super worried about getting some red bugs, or Acro eating flatworm, or any of the multiple bad critter out there. Can someone please explain a good qt or dip process so I can make sure I dont' intorduce these into my display!!

I do a 6 hour interceptor dip(for red bugs) followed by a 15 minute Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure bath. I also throw in a squirt of Flat worm exit in the last couple minutes of the interceptor bath, although most think it will not kill AEFW. Heck I already bought the stuff, and there are some that say it will work at the high dose I am using it. I am in the process of setting up a QT tank, which is really the only sure way to remain pest free. I'll still dip everything before the QT

TMPCC is where its at...so far i have been lucky and nothing has come in!!!! nothing even came out of the dip they were all healthy

i did have some monti nudis but i only have one monti so it doesnt really matter as i just brush them off weekly and they are gone now after about 6 weeks....TMPCC killed the monti nudis but it took longer than the 10-15 minutes...it took 30 minutes to kill the big ones but about 10 to kill the little boogers

What does the TMPCC bath take care of...Acro eating flat worms?

I think I'l wind up dipping corals then placing them in my frag tank for a week or so. Not as good as a QT tank but I just can't set up a third tank with lighting to keep SPS and it's better then some pest getting into my display.

Red Bugs, AEFW's, nudis, etc... Just about everything parasitic that can come on an Acro colony/frag... Get a bottle and do the dip.

I dip every coral that I get.

Do all corals, SPS, LPS, softies, leather, zoos etc. get this same treatment? And what is an "interceptor dip"?

TMPCC work's much better than lugol's that's for sure. Definitley treat all incoming coral's and QT before they go in. Worked on redbug's for me, but with multiple treatment's. It's nobody's fault but you're own if you let them in.

Where do you get the TMPCC?

As for Interceptor, I would be inclined to do a 12 hr instead of 6 hr treatment, based on Eric Bornemann's research. That had a better kill rate without any significant increase in side effects unless the dose was very high.

I now have a 40 gal breeder as my coral QT. My plan is to treat the whole QT with Interceptor at double the dose recommended by Dustin Dorton for 12 hrs before I put any acros from the QT into the DT. Basically I will just assume the QT never has any pods in it. It also won't have shrimp or hermits so the Interceptor shouldn't really affect anything else.

I know the the guy that suggested Interceptor to Dustin. He uses TMPCC rather than Inteceptor and recommended it to me and as I said it worked in my case. A full blown infection would be another story, but for me the bug's were only on a select few corals.

In regards to Acro crabs I have typically lost these when using Interceptor - do the acro crabs die during TMPCC dips?

Anyone have a link to the article on the Interceptor treatment/dip?
Here is a link to the treatment protocol rec by Eric Borneman. He has some other very good information about red bugs on his site as well.

if you want the acro crab to survive a dip, try removing it first into a temporary container, then reintroducing it with the acro when you're done with the dip.

I usually use a toothpick to flick the crab out of the colony, and then dip the colony, and once the dip is done, introduce the colony to the tank, and then the crab carefully placed on the acro again. walla =)
