i have a adult sailfin tang (Zebrasoma veliferum) and i started to get some red algae did a water change and added some chemi clean to the tanks, the next day tang stressed and breathing hard and looks like it has started to get ick. he is still eating well but has anyone had this product do anything like this to there tank. not sure if they are related are not but it was fine before i added the chemiclean

chemiclean is basically antibiotic, which kills the cyanobacteria (red slim algae) together with the "good" bacteria for biological filtration. Do a large water change and check for NH3, NO2 and NO3 in your water. Basically you are starting your tank all over again.

oh ok i see so i really crashed my bio system filtration right, so that caused the stress to my tang, i would hate to loose him he really great him a long time

It also might be low oxygen levels. I assume you turned your skimmer off, make sure you add an air pump to raise oxygen levels.

yes, aerate as much as you can, i believe that's actually in the instructions

if your tank is young, don't stress about cyano it may be a phase. do try to correct flow or nutrient issues, but don't get dependeny on boyd's now to control it. folks with large established tanks often have a routine that includes it, you probably aren't in a situation that calls for it (yet!).

a roving powerhead pointed at patches will help dissipate any colonies that are getting to be nuisances until your system gets into a state where the bloom will go away.

ok thanks tank 7mth old will give it a shot stress on the tang is my worries don't want to loose it
