Sailfin and Yellow Tang

I purchased a custom made 180 (actually 175--48w x 35h x 24d) and inherited a Sailfin tang. I am in the process of transferring the inhabitants of my 90g which includes a Yellow tang. I am concerned that with the same body type one will end up killing the other. Am I being overly concerned?

That is helpful. I would very much like to have both in the tank. I am a little concerned because my tank is only 4ft wide. I would guess your 400 is more like 8ft.

How big is each? Since the yellow is coming into the sailfin's tank, he could get beat up. I'd suggest a totally new rockscape and adding the sailfin last to the new setup. With this done and the addition of the inhabitants from you old tank, you have a good chance at success.

I would guess you are going to have aggression issues. The only thing I would suggest if you are going to try it is have a backup plan ready to go.

if both fish are small, it will probably be ok for a while. however, i don't think it will work long term as the tank is not big enough (or long enough). the salfin tang will also outgrow your 180 as a 4' tank is too small for it once it hits 7-8".

Both are small 3-4 inches. However, I know it just will not work long term so I will find a new home for the yellow and deal with the sailfin down the road. Thanks for all the input, you helped me get through my wishful thinking!
