Sailfin Tang or Desjardini Sailfin Tang?

Desjardini
I have one in my 210 and I liked the spotted look on it more when I was comparing them months ago

I like the desjardini (the one with the more orange striping and the dark tail) better than the normal sailfin.

Desjardini fer sure. its a beautiful fish, i love the purple in it. The indo sailfin looks nice to but the desjardinis are prettier imo.

It seemed like the adult Desjardini have more colours than the normal sailfin. I have never seen a Desjardini in the flesh, so I don't know what it's colouring really looks like. Their look seems to vary in pictures I've seen.

They look like they would really benefit from good lighting. I still have to buy a T5 five foot long, six row fixture and three or four strips of LED's.

I had a desjardini and wished i would have went with the regular sailfin as the colors on the dini seem to wash out with age.

+1. I think it's the opposite with the regular sailfin. I've got a large one (~9") and I think it looks better now than it did when it was small. I also prefer the yellow tail. JMO.

I've noticed this too. Recently, I saw a huge desjardinii (~14") and it was quite pale in comparison to a couple smaller desjardinii in the same tank.

I had a veliferum in my 180 for a couple years and it was always one of my favorite fish. I had to sell it when I moved, but I think I'm going to be getting another one in the future.

My desjardinii changes colors. He can be all white to all black, depending on his mood. I love it, so much better than the veliferum.

Definitely the desjardini have had 1 for about 6 years now and the kids call him Boss Tang he will even eat from my hand. Great fish with very nice color

at what age do they change from their juvi yellow colors? My desjardini is probably a year old (I have had him since april, and he was about 1'') and his spots have just started showing on his face but he is still very yellow. I was curious at what age they start really changing

+1 on disjardini
I am guessing diet for those dull adults, mine has gained color and pattern over time. I have seen many species go ugly as high quality diet goes out the door when the fish starts eating a lot. Right now at about 7 inches, mine is one of our favorite fish. He goes from light to dark like another member stated. I love their personality and larger size as well as the never boring neutral colors (compared to the bright yellows, blues) and the massive disk shape when worked up.

Mine started changing when he was about 3 or 4 inch. But it doesnt happen over night, mine took a while to get his full adult color.

Even though i have much more colorful tangs, visitors always pick him as the nicest. Nobody likes my achilles....

You won't regret picking the desjardini. The pattern and color are much better than the regular sailfin, and like someone else stated before if the diet isn't good the fish won't look good. A lot of times I see fish at public aquariums or big pet stores that are faded or have HLLE most likely due to their diet. On the contrary I have seen some desjardini that have been well taken care of and they rival most tangs for looks.

doesnt look like the colors washed out here, then again this one is full grown. IMO i prefer this coloration to the stripes.<a href="http://s880.photobucket.com/albums/ac2/streetsk8r35791/?action=view&current=Z_desjardini.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac2/streetsk8r35791/Z_desjardini.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
