sailfin tangs - which one to get?

hey guys,

the next fish addition will be a sailfin tang. on LA it seems there are a few differnet species to choose from. i haven't been able to find any pictures showing the colors of each type etc.


anybody have any input on this? im looking for vibrant colors

Are you talking about the difference between the desjardini and the veriferum? The website has them under different listings with different pictures. Or are you talking about the different locations a given species comes from? They have the veriferum sailfins from coral sea, tahiti, and indo-pacific. I would email your question to their customer service, basically asking if there are any major color differences between the speciemens from different locales.

Desjardini sailfins get a spotted pattern on them as they age, while the veriferum I believe keep their lines.

Also, make sure it has plenty of room, they get big, I think it's up to like 16 inches in length.

i was talking about the locations that they have listed.. they are different prices...so i figured maybe they vary in color too?

maybe im mistaken...

if not what would be the benefit of getting one over the other?

the colors should not vary with location, ...

the price difference is simply based on someone's idea of which location brings in a hardier fish, ...

If I remember right the juvinlle desjardini is yellowish with stripes and as it matures it turns into a burgundy color with stripes.
