Salifert Alkalinity

Just curious. When testing alkalinity, do you measure your level the first drop beyond "clear" or wait for the color to be a little darker?

what test kit do you have ? my salifert KH/Alkalinity test kit starts with blue/green water and they tell you to add drops until it turns orange-red or pink . in my situation it turns light pink and i put drops in until it becomes pink . once it becomes pink im done . if you do it to the same color each time then you will have regularity with your testing so just get it the same each time . if your off by .02 on your reading it will be off by .7 on your KH value so i just try to do it the same as i said before .

It's the same test. I had never used salifert before, until last night. I took my measurement as soon as I started to see pink in the water, which gave me a reading of about 7.2. While having a consistent mark to measure by is nice, I just want to make sure it's the correct consistent mark.

yes, it's somewhat difficult to read the color shift so you have to just be consistent with it . i will say that if it just starts to turn pink and it kind of goes away when agitated i do add one more drop and then it turns pink so that may help answer your question .
