i have copper power available which contains 1.26% copper sulfate.

i read the recommended copper dosage on a thread but lost it... however that isnt my problem.

my problem is with the test kit. im useing the copper test kit from salifert. i used the dosage from the copper power however i cant get the test kit to tell me how much is actualy in the water.

my first test i did on the Q-tank and the water remained clear. even after sitting for a few hours. i put water into a paper cup, added a HUGE dose of copper then tested it. the test remained the same color as the water in the cup.

this is my first salifert test kit and its very unusual to me and im not absolutly sure how to use it because the package lacks detailed instructions.

ALSO, the test kit chart gives me .10, .25, .50, 1.0, >2.
what is this telling me? i think it means ppm. but if i want 0.15-0.20 mg/l, how do i convert it???

my fish are in Q-tank now and i added copper based on the instructions on the bottle. my pods all died out and the fish are alive. so things are doing good for now however i want to keep a close eye on the copper as i will be doing water changes.

I am not familiar with copper power, but I can answer a few questions for you. The test kit chart numbers are in parts per million or ppm. And, milligrams per liter mg/L is the same thing as parts per million.

so .25 ppm is the same as .25 mg/l?
Yep

now i just need to find out how to get it to change colors :)
The problem may be that this particular formula for copper is incompatible with your test kit. Not all copper medications are the same. Therefore, not all copper test kits read all the various medications.

what brand of copper would work with the salifer test kit? i just did a search and found that cupramine would not work with salifert test kit. and it doesnt seem my copper power is working either.

Rather than getting a copper med to match your test kit, I would go the other way around. Get the copper med that is most effective and least toxic for your fish, and then get a test kit to match.

For what its worth, I use Cupramine as the med and I use the Red Sea test kit. It definitely works with Cupramine, not sure about Copper Power. The Seachem Copper Multi-Test claims to be able to test pretty much any type of copper, but I and many others recently have had very spotty results when using it on Cupramine, which is made by the same company, so I can't really recommend it.

Seachem had a batch of bad reagents sneak through making their copper test kits go bad prematurely.
