Salinity probe error

I don't think it is cleaning problem. It seems he has this wrong reading since he calibrated, why should the probe become more dirty after this?

Tony,
did you perform the calibration exactly like required?
first probe in the air, then probe in solution?

what ADC-values are displayed in ProfiLuxControl at the salinity page?

As per the instructions that come with the GHL salinity probe, in time the platinum probe requires cleaning, calibration solution is not strong enough to do this.

If the probe is dirty it can "stick" at a value, then when attempted recalibration can throw the reading out.

I had it on mine, ceaned, now works a treat.

I cleaned with tooth brush same as other times I calibrated. I calibtated 3 or 4 times with same results.

Yes in the air and proper temp.

This morning the reading is back in range I would expect, however the reading is not stable. (dirty contact in connector?)

ADC1 21
ADC2 22

As it is back in range but fluctuating I still would think contamination.

Try one of the following that is listed in the GHL sheet with the probe for cleaning

soak in warm soapy water to remove oil or grease contaminates.

If no go

soak for 30 mins in 30% sulphuric acid and detergent mix

My added advise on experience dealing with platinum probes, get an ear bud and rub with vinegar and then leave in fresh water, then recalibrate

Matthias may have other suggestions also

ADC1 21
ADC2 22

-> very bad!

the first value is OK (this is the value "probe in air"), the second value should be something around 500 (this is the value for probe in solution)!

please do calibration again and watch the displayed "ADC"-values during calibration.

If the readings during calibration in the solution are still far away from approx. 500 then move cable and/or plug and check if the ADC-value changes then - maybe there is now a bad connection in the plug or cable. This may have happened while removing the BNC-plug (e.g. everything was unplugged for an update or something like that).

Same results - this problem started with no real movement of unit or wires. Is it possible there is an open on EX unit that maybe fixed with simply reseating connector to main board?

I guess there is something wrong with the BNC-plug of the probe.

But this is not a very big deal. Do you know someone who is able to replace this BNC-plug? For example a computer guy?

I had the same problems with mine, I wont buy another one of these probes. Now i use another brand, as much as i love profilux it hurt!

Not exactly correct your problem was that you left yours stored dry for over six months checking back at messages, that will kill any probe. Not exactly a GHL fault that one

Problem was actually some build up on contact on probe, I could not see it with my old eyes! I took it to local pc shop and we did a continuity test, it passed. The tech saw the build up, i gave it a bath in vinegar and all is well. So Michael you were correct at first.

What brand Creetin?

Oh yes the old vinegar trick

Am I allowed to say "I told you so" He he

Important thing is the probe works YEAH!!!! :D
