MY SALT LEVEL IS TO HIGH IN MY TANK 1.030(40 GAL) WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD ON LOWERING IT. WILL THIS KILL MY FISH?THE TANK IS THREE DAYS OLD

Why doyou have fish at 3 days? Take some water out and add fresh water (no salt). Did you let the tank cycle? 1.030 salinity will not kill your fish.

where to begin....

In my opinion, at this point the salt level should be the least of your worries.

You're saying you've got fish in a 3 day old tank? That should be what you're worrying about most....a 3 day old tank is not going to be ready for fish.

The first thing you should do is read read and READ on here....especially all those "starting your first reef" threads and stuff like that, which is stickied to the top of the New to the Hobby forum.

oh, and...

I had the kid at the pet store setup the tank for me and he put in 3 damsels in the tank. The only thing i found odd is that he mixed the salt in the tank after putting in the live rock. The rocks look like they have white silt all over them. Should i clean the rocks with disttiled water and change some water out? Sorry for the dumb questions I am new to this.

....which is EXACTLY why you read up on the stuff before letting someone who probably has no idea what they're doing do exactly what they did.

And dont listen to what you're fish store/pet store people say...specially whichever one that kid works at....they could really care less about what happens to your tank (most of the time...some are truly good) as long as you keep going in there to buy stuff. Thats exactly why they sold you the fish...they dont care about the fish...if it dies during the cycle, what is it to them? Thats what damsels are "used for" after all

i dont think the kid that set up your stuff knows what he is doing.. read some books and keep reading.. that is the best way to find out things.. i think since he put your live rock in just distilled water at first.. it killed everything on the live rock and is no longer live. if you would of started with live rock that is the best thing to get your cycle going.. there is no need for the damsels.. plus if you add any more fish.. the damsels most likely will beat on the other fish as they are very teritorial. return the fish.. and drop a raw cocktail shrimp in the tank to get the cycle started.

I don't want to cause a panic here edvivi, but I fear for the fish in that tank...

In my opinion you're in a battle that may in badly simply because a 3 day old tank is not ready for livestock.

You have taken the right step in seeking help here. The people here are the best and love to help. :D

Two of the most important factors in this hobby to me are patience and research. Well.... you already got a tank up and running... so much for patience

Read, READ, and READ SOMEMORE!!! :P

Good place to get started

My advice would be to return the fish right away as their survival chances are slim. Your tank needs to cycle which'll take weeks. You'll need that time for research anyways.

I'm sure you'll get a TON of people giving advice on this so'll shut up now.

Good Luck!

P.S The kid that set your tank up needs to be smacked with a wet fishnet! :p
