Salt mix consistancy

Is there any need to shake up a bucket of salt every once in awhile to make sure nothing is settling? My bucket of IO seems to have an increased alk at the end of the bucket:confused: I was getting like 11dkh now new water was 13dkh. this was after adding just part 2 of bionic to up the calcium a little. I didnt test until after the bionic but assuming it was the same.

Unless your bucket is on a vibrating table, I don't see it sorting itself. Iwould think that if any chemical rection was causing specific IONS or comounds to shift or form, it would cause clumping.

Then again I did not do to well in advanced chem.

If you are concerned, I am shure that placing the pail on it's side and rolling it around will not hurt anything.

I was thinking more along the lines of during shipping etc. Im gonna mix up so more today and before adding anything, see what i get.

It is possible that it has layered to some extent. A difference from 11 to 13 dKH isn't enough to worry about, IMO, but the effect might be more severe.

However, mixing it up is complicated. Some types of mixing might make it actually settle out more. Still, I expect mixing is fine.

Let us know what you find. :)

Just tested new water...
salt 1.025
alk 13dkh
calcium 380ppm

Any concern with uping the calcium to at least 420 with calcium chloride with the alk that high?

That should be fine. If the pH is high, it might lead to a little precipitation, but that will happ-en whether the calcium is 380 or 420 ppm.
