Salt mix question

I have been using neomarine salt but when i ordered salt the other day ordered the red sea coral pro salt. If I mix it according to the directions it is supposed to have an Alk reading of about 12. Normally my alk is 7.5.

What I am wondering, other than why I didnt stick with the salt I had been using that was working fine, is if I do 10% weekly WC will the differance be to much of a shock and/or will my Alk just get a little higher every week until it stabilizes? this will be going into a system with about 100G total volume.

As long as you premix it in a seperate container and let a powerhead move the water atleast 6 hours before adding , over night better , and then add to the tank slowly you wont have any problem.

Depends on what you have for corals, but I wouldn't be concerned about it regardless of livestock with a 10% water change weekly. A bump of 1 or even 2 or more degrees of dKh in one shot shouldn't be too much of a shock to healthy corals.

Nick the red sea coral pro salt is way different than neomarine. I would recommend switching really slow. Neomarine values are closer to natural sea water giving you room to adjust up. But the red sea salt will way over shoot your values giving you little room for adjustment since it's hard to adjust your values down. Plus will have to Change your dosing regimen. Go slow maybe 5% a week. I personally like the Neomarine the best out of all the salts I've tried over the years. I used the red sea and it turned my buckets white with all the excess it has in it.
