Salt mix ratio

So how come every time I mix new salt I have to add 30% more salt to bring it up to 1.026?

Sorry, just my vent for the day...

Anyone else?

Better calibrate your gage. 30% is beyond my comprehension. Where's our resident chemist to explain this one with a little stoichiometry? Tom????

reef cyrstals 160 gallon bucket is calculated at .021 not .026. kinda cheesy IMO . i understand IO at a lower salinity. a salt mix that designed for reefs should be closer to NSW.

i agree, I hate the fact that they try to "trick" us with their bow that makes 200 gallons, at .021...... Just sell it for what it is and we will still buy it!!! Im not sure if they understand that! Im cool with buying the box that makes 170 gallons at .026

Depends on the marketing clcualtion. For example, .O26 divided by .021 equals 1.238. So it would take 24% more to mix to 1.026 All of the other values noted by the manufacturer such as , calc, mag, alk, etc.,would also go up by 24%.
