Salt mixing instructions

Hey,

I am new to mixing my own salt. I have always used store bought (premixed) from my LFS. The Tunze bag does not have mixing instructions.

Any idea how many cups of salt would be needed to get 5 gallons up to 1.026?

Your best bet is to mix the whole bag if you can. Our salt settles and some of your parameters may be higher one time and lower another time. If you cannot make the whole bag be sure to mix the salt very well in the bag before mixing with your water. As far as making 5 gallons you are just gonna have to add a little bit at a time and then measure mix and repeat until you reach 1.026. I would keep notes so that you have them for the next time you mix your salt.

In the future we are going to put the salt in 5 or 10 gallon bags so that it is easier to mix.

Last night I tried mixing a 4 gallon batch with 2.5 cups of salt (following a recipe for another mix). It came out to 1.028. I am going to mess with it, if I get an exact ratio, I will let you know in case others ask.

Luckily, I mixed the bag really well!
