Salt water go bad???

I made up some salt water last week and never completed my water change, it has been sitting in my water jug with no heater or pump since then. I know salinity has probably changed but can i still use the water? or does it go bad if there is no pump to move it around?

if you used salts with no organics [anything other than Reef Crystal] and used CLEAN RO/DI water, then you are fine, just turn the pump back on and adjust the salinity, leave pumps on fro a couple hours to stabalize PH again.

What organics are in reef crystals? Does that mean that the normal instant ocean salt also has organics?

They add vitamins to Reef Crystals, this is what has the potential to cause issues, regular IO does not have this.

Thank you for the information. So that means there is some water soluble vitamin that is in solid form available? Can we buy this and supplement it? Since its in dry form, I assume it would be more cost effective if we can actually buy it versus buying liquid vitamin like vitachem which is over 90% of water.

we dont have the composition of what vitamines and how much :(

If you can find any information anywhere that shows a benefit from the vitamins, then you probably can find them in a dry form. I have never seen any literature showing any benefit from the added vitamins.

I think its like us humans taking vitamins. If we eat healthy organic stuff, we shouldn't need them. (Tho there might be studies that says otherwise). For our tanks, if we feed like live phyto and live feeds to our livestock, then everything should be groovy. But for most of us, we feed frozen and other processed food, some vitamin is probably lost. I agree with you that it would be hard to find information on it. I mean it is hard to even find any conclusive information on humans taking vitamin actually has any real benefits and not just snake oil. After all, vitamins are not even tightly regulated by the FDA.

I wouldn't say that, a lot of people use it with good results, the only issue can be from letting it sit without being used, it can grow bacteria very well. If it is agitated then there is no issue.

alot of ppl use it with success, I believe that in a growing reef the vitamines would get used up. either by corals or cyano or other bacteria.

for me personally though, I rather use CLEAN salt water, and add those as needed myself.

ive had it sit for about a week before, but it alwys has a powerhead in the barrel to keep it moving
