Salt Water Supplier?

Since I live a mile from the ocean would it be bad to get my water directly from the source? I have a feeling the LFS I am buying it from is doing the same thing.

I mean if I go to the ocean at incoming tide I should get some good water, no? yes?

LFS natural salt water should have gone through a filtering process possibly by UV and more. Water straight from the ocean may contain unwanted parasites.

I wouldnt you would have to get it a mile off shore to get decent water

If I were to get water a mile (or more) offshore and stored it in clean containers how long would it last? Could I get a couple weeks storage (shelf life)?
