Salt

I have used Instant Ocean, Reef Crystals, and Kent Reef Salt, currently using Kent Reef Salt and have had the best results, my least favorite of the three I have used was the Reef Crystals, Instant Ocean I had to dose to keep the levels where I wanted them as its pretty basic salt, but worked well for me for a long time, but the Kent Reef Salt seems to keep all my parameters right where I want them, I don't dose any more, just frequent water changes, I also only have a 40g Breeder...so...I have been happy with Kent Reef Salt.

My system is Birdsnest Dominated, but still considered mixed reef cuase I have a few LPS and softies mixed in here and there, but mostly Birdsnest, and they seem to be growing and doing great so far.

I hate salt mixes so hard to find a good one. I have used IO, RC, TMPR, Coralife, HW Pro, HW Reefer, H2Ocean, Oceanic, IO Oceanic mix. The only ones I really like where the HW salts, TMPR and the old RC. I just got a bucket of Red Sea Coral Pro today so I will see how that works out. I was using H2Ocean but it is rumored to be the same as H2Ocean, but its cheaper. H2Ocean was good but the mag through out the bucket was inconsistent.

I've used both B-ionic and D-D with great success although I did notice improved color with my zoas when I was switching to D-D.

I just made the switch from IORC to Red Sea coral pro. I've only done one water change so I cant give much input.d

What is ESV?

I am using reef crystals and need to switch because I am carbon dosing trying to keep my dkh below 8 and a water change always raises it up to 9. I am thinking of using red sea coral pro.

I am currently using ESV after using reef crystal. And I love it.
ESV is a name brand salt that you mix each component separately, so you get the same blend every time. It sounds like a lot of work, but is not it mixes very easily and fast. And another good thing I don’t have to dose cal or alk as the salt is spot on with both items.

Hope this helps
Frank

I use Red Sea Coral Pro. It dissolves easily with no residue, and I get great polyp extension. I've used IO Reef Crystals and Tropic Marin in the past.

Marine Environment! Never had problems with it and i never will! Disolves in like 2-3 min water clears up in 20 min. Did find a bit of residue tho....

For those of you using Red Sea Coral Pro (in the black buckets), what alk does your salt mix up to? I had read that they changed the formulation and it mixes higher now.

Red Sea Coral Pro- My Alk mixes up to about 12 at 1.026 but it's balanced well with the Ca and Mg. I still find myself needing to dose since the SPS are taking off.

Do you keep your alk that high in your tank? If not, doesn't that cause you problems?

Personally, I'm looking for a salt that will mix up at the alk I keep my tank at. I dose so I don't want a water change to raise my alk as it will throw off my automated dosing.

The reg coral sea will mix to 8-9 at 1.026 with D-D like numbers of ca/alk/mg at less than 1/2 the prices...I'm a deltec fan but an trying a bucket of RS out to see if I can see a diff.

I use Seachem Reef in my other tank.
