WHY WHy Why is this not closer.
This is a great opportunity for someone.
HOWEVER it is also a great risk. Whoever goes into it might be well advised to look into some paid consultig. You can get some names like a Calfo or Pro for a day at under a grand. This would be well advised since they are quite versed in this. Might even get some local gurus to help. Good opportunity. If this was anything like closer I would be on this now!

If their dropping their saltwater section because there is no local interest (downtown) why would anyone want to set up shop there. I would assume that most sales would be online (not downtown) so picking up a cheaper rent in a cheaper area would make sense.

If anyone is serious it would be worth giving them an offer on the equipment and moving it into a cheaper rent area (like a home) and taking the business online. Better yet I'm sure a grow-op could be formed by members on here to put up LE frags or good equipment without the monthly price tag.

What are you talking about?!! It can't be any closer. I can walk to it from my house.

It is a great opportunity because there is no real competition. There are basically two stores in the area, Downtown Pets and a small store just south of 55 on Halsted. The area is BOOMING. There are three high rises being built within walking distance of the store and many midrises being built as well. There will literally be thousands of new households within walking distance of this shop in the next year.

Mia does well with what she has and has toiled back and forth over whether to go full bore or not and has now decided that it would be best for someone to take it over. Someone with a passion for saltwater and a passion for promoting it. You can't just open up a pet store and also sell saltwater fish and corals. Saltwater fish hobbyists are finicky and very particular about what they need and want and it takes a person that has a passion for saltwater fish and corals to do well in this area of the business. Mia has the passion, she just doesn't have the time to devote to it.

I would do this myself, as I believe that the time and the place is right for a reef store in the South Loop, but the problem is that the time and the place is not right for me right now. I can't give it the focus it would need.

Now somebody get off your arse and get this thing going! I have a 170 I need to stock!!!

if anyone needs any help, i'd be glad to give a helping hand...I was actually going to do something simmilar to this when i was helping out there, but it is just way too unstable.

as for competiton....i had a couple people contact me about opening up a high end reef store in the city...i had to turn down the job, but last i heard they were going through with it. something to consider...

For a couple of people with a desire to get a reef business going, this seems like a rather nice opportunity. For $750 a piece, per month, you can be up and running selling fish, frags, and whatever in a fast growing neighborhood.

I suggest that anyone that is interested, go directly to Mia and talk with her about it. We can all hypothesize about why she is doing it and how it will all work, but you will never know the facts until you get it directly from the source.
