Saltwater snail in fresh tank? Now babies?

I believe we have a turritellidae (?) snail living in our freshwater tank. My son put the shell in the tank, after finding it washed up at the beach and keeping it in a ziploc with many others for about six months. Of course imagine our surprise when it started to move around in the water! And after a month, it is thriving and has now reproduced with at least 8 tiny miniatures. Any insight on how this is possible? And should we do something special to keep them alive?? What is the lifespan of the momma?

IMO it's highly unlikely if not impossible for the snail to have survived in a ziploc for 6 months, the other thing is that it would be just as unlikely and impossible it would survive if you had put it directly into your aquarium the same day you found it.

There are some snails that could survive in a ziploc with other snails for months. The moisture wouldn't be lost, and depending on which species, it might even find something to eat. However, I wouldn't attempt to ID it without a pic. It's almost certainly not a Turritella though, more likely either a potamidid or cerithiid, or a freshwater species that got washed out into the sea and up onto the shore.
