I am concidering moving back to new mexico. is there alot of salt water stores with corals and fish. or is reefing taboo?

It seems like it is area dependent. Down in the south, there seems to be a good amount. Central/north is lacking.

In Albuquerque they have Southwest Reef. which is fairly decent but prices vary. The only other places that carry saltwater stuff is Clarks, very small saltwater section and some of the Petcos. The westside one is decent for what it is. I think if you are used to a lot of selection like california or florida, you will be disappointed.

Right now I am in The phoenix metro area. and about a mile from my house we have reef culture. I suppose we have alot of saltwater stores here in the valley. clarks is still around? wow! I was born in albuquerque and raised.

The LIVESTOCK does not make a fish store, everyones, got cool stuff. For the most part everyone stocks the same stuff, and it all comes from the same distributors. It is really the employees and the support that the fish store provides to the local hobbyists that makes a fish store. As far as I am concerned, there are only two people in New Mexico that have any business running a fish store. That is Eric and or Rob. No one else can hold a candle to them. So the problem that I have with southwest reef co is that Rob is never there anymore. Every time I, or some of my buddies have brought in livestock to trade,(When Robs not there) they always have an excuse like “there is no room in the fish tanks” or “it is too big or too small.” Last time my friend tried to bring in button polyps (stinkin button polyps) to good old southwest they told him it was too big for them to take. They told him If he wanted, they could break it into smaller pieces and they would take some of it. That is the kind of stuff that bugs me…Finally the coral was taken to Clarks they couldn’t give him store credit, but they would put it on consignment for him. The worst of them all is a guy by the name of Deryus (not sure of the spelling) not only is he incompetent, but rude as well. The last time I took corals into Clark’s Deryus got into an argument with a fellow employee. There was a big old scence about who had the authority to trade for corals. (got more storys about this clown) It wasn’t even a trade I was putting the coral on consignment because they had no money in their budget to buy it from me. There seems to be some kind of power struggle going on there. Anytime I have problems with Doctor Fosters and Smith they just send me out a new coral. SOO much easier!! Actually, if you guys are looking for nice corals at a nice price I would get them from Ken at Scleractina Endemica. He is another one of the guys I forgot to mention that has enough knowledge to operate a fish store.

Yeah most of these guys that are into high end stuff would love kens setup..He is here local and is pretty reasonable..For sure I had the same problem at swrc..Rob wasn't there so I left the coral there and was told I would get the credit at a later time..I didn't have a problem with it but someone who cared about how much they were getting would..I've gotten good credit from Dorius but Im sure it is because I know him so I can totally see it happening to some one else..I bargained for a used korallin 1502 from him only to have him break it before I paid for it sux now it is parts..I need to see ur stuff seesick its been a while..

Come on over reign. Whenever... I got Cold brews and even some of the dark stuff you like. Little reefy (Kev) is starting up a cube.

Yeah that Dorius guy is a clown. I don't know what his deal is but why doesn't Clarks have that blonde lady run the saltwater section? She seems a little more knowlegable and reasonable.

I see they ganked the post from the guy that works at Southwest Reef Co. You got ganked by Nanook.

long live the Coral Crew

Sorry guys but per Reef Central's commercial rules members who happen to work at LFSs or other businesses that have a business/commercial interest in this hobby are considered commercial and so cannot advertise/promote/participate in discussions about their place of employment. :)

Hey guys I would post more but because i work there i cant mention it because reef centrasl will kick me off.

That all good, you don't have to mention work. Glad you are here maybe you could give us sum perspective from the other side, But as a hobbyist not an employee.. now that I think more about your situation it seems very delicate. I hope we or maybe just me, did not make any trouble for you.

or just get ROB to step-up and sponsor!!! LOL
