Saltwater Swimming Pool, Cool Idea?

I was reading some post on saltwater ponds and just thought it would be interesting for someone to build a reefsystem in their backyard in ground swimming pool. How extreme would that be? You could keep all kinds of sharks and different things? Any ideas? Or does anyone know anyone who has tried this.

Well, I am 13 years old, and my father has an in ground saltwater swimming pool :) Its really cool, and not nearly as bad as chlorine on your skin. The only thing is, is that different salt is used and if you want to be able to swim in it, I wouldn't put any life in it..also I think it would be very hard to keep it maintained during the seasons etc. Just my idea....anyone else have something to say?

I think it would be pretty cool if the climate you live in would allow for it. Better yet build a greenhouse around it. Also only make it 3 foot deep or so, so you can see what you have it there without having to dive in.

It's neat but I agree with Sophia. You wouldn't want LR / Live stock in the same place you swim. I bought those purple orange gloves because I don't like putting my hand in the tank without protection.

like Seaworld will you have the fish perform too? You could build some small stadium seats and charge admission.

I will come if you build it !!
Just kidding .

sophia is right-the salt is completely diffrent

it would be hard to keep salinity stable...thats why i did one under an awning

i wanted to do the same to our pool...mom wouldnt let me
BTW im 16...she said when i get my own house i could do whatever i want

Lots of people get grossed out over their tanks. Don't you swim in the ocean or lakes? What's the difference unless you don't trust your own aquarium husbandry?

Yep! Discovery Cove is our next "vacation destination." :D

We're only three hours away, so looks like we'll do a whole weekend. Swimming with dolphins and schools of reef fish- what could be better?!

Swimming with sharks, huh??

I'd like to know what are going todo when season chages?
that a lot of water to keep warm oh and what about the algae from sun light

anybody remember that house that was listed on e-bay a few years back - had a saltwater/reef setup with a locker full of fins and masks?

I saw an awesome setup where someone had a fish tank built in the basement, with one side of the glass being the swimming pool wall. So, when you swam underwater, you could look into the tank, but you weren't in the tank. I guess that gave the best of both worlds to both the fish and the humans :)
