Water Change Setup

Josh (or anyone else) I would like to see pics of your set up. I also have been trying to figure out how to make the water change less of a chore. Anyone got an extra mag 9.5 (or similar) pump they aren't using that they might be willing to sell for cheap? BTW - I'm not trying to jack the thread, just interested in more of the same info!

Ok, but it is not too interesting.

This first one is the pipe on the right that is leading from the tank to the closed loop pump - this has a valve (the one upside down) that is used in the process - call it valve "A".

This second shot is of the "T" off of the closed loop line whe you can see that I have attached another valve (call it valve "B") and onto that valve I have a union.

There is another valve on the return side of the closed loop that I could not get a good picture of, but you get the idea - call it valve "C".

How it works:
1.) Turn off closed loop pump and close all valves.
2.) Attach flex hose to union and put open end of hose into empty BRUTE.
3.) Open valve "A" and then valve "B" to allow tank water to flow into BRUTE.
4.) Once enough water is out, turn off valves "A" & "B", and move the hose to the BRUTE with the new water.
5.) Turn on the closed loop pump and open valve "B" to allow new water to pump into tank.
6.) Turn off valve "B" and open valve "A" when water change is completed.

It may seem like a few steps, but they go very quickly and it really only takes about 10 minutes for mine to empty and then fill the tank. Lesson learned - be careful when adjusting the plumbing so as to not tweak out the bulkhead or cause too much pressure to push against it - if too much then it can cause the bulkhead seal to weaken and may let sand enter and cause some leaking. I used regular hard PVC for the key turns/joint pieces and the flex PVC just to lead down to the pump.
