Same beneficial bacteria for Fresh as Salt water?

Are the beneficial bacteria for the nitrogen cycle the same for Fresh as Salt water?

Can I used the sponge filter from my Freshwater aquarium to help jump start the nitrogen cycle in the salt water aquarium?

No...and yes... I imagine the freshwater bacteria would die and you would have a little cycle starting

Nope. Won't do a thing for a saltwater tank. You have three options. Patience with an ammonia source, seed with live rock or real live sand or bacteria in a bottle meant for marine aquariums.

I had a bottle of quick start left over from my freshwater setup, added it to my marine tank during cycle and it did nothing to speed the process. +1 on no
