Sand bed cleaning

I have some algae on my sand bed and took it out and it was holding on the the sand bed.
Is there a way to clean off and kill the green algae so it will not grow back from this sand so I can put the sand back in the tank?

Not sure about your first question, it sounds like you removed your sand bed? The algae is there because of excess nutrients in the water. Get rid of the nutrients and the algae will go away.

It's not bold because you have already viewed it.

And nobody had posted yet.

I would get new sand if you took it out, but that's just me :) I feel it's probably nutrient laden.

Sorry I put my hand in the tank and pulled out the clump of algae on the sand bed. Like to know if anyone ever cleaned dirty sand to reuse it.

I forgot to check my DI and it was high. I changed it and buying and new meter
to put on my RODI unit.
If there is no way to clean the sand I will d o as you said buy new bag of sand and replace it.

You can definitely reuse sand. I strongly recommend you thoroughly rinse it, preferably in SW.

Are you running a gfo reactor? Would really help pull out extra nutrients. Your rocks can suck up, hold and leach nutrients as well. I won't set up my next tank w/out a dual reactor from Bulk Reef Supply.

Yes but not for the carbon. I will look at that as dual reactor you mean double or two singles? As the rocks how you clean of the rocks if that is what you are saying?

Rinse sand thoroughly and let it dry in the sun. You can run reactors as mentioned above, but the fact that you pinpointed the DI as the main culprit should help with your algae problem significantly.

i would suggest adding a clean up crew and let them do the work for you .

I have put cleanup crews in many times. Do you know is there a life period they have? Put in cleaning crews and then most die off over few months. I check the water numbers are ok.

not to be a smart (&^ but you should look into a better source for your CUC . i have wrasses that prey on my CUC and am constantly purchasing a few here and there and i always have a bunch in my tank ,they really do work well .
nassarius snails and some turbo snails and maybe a fighting conk in each tank
