sand bed cleaning

I vacuum 1/4 of the sand during a water change and do a different section each time. I have about 2 inches of sand but I think if you have a deep sand bed you don't want to disturb it.

I would say it is about 1 inch deep. I am getting alot of detritus on the sand bed not sure what to do.

Are you relying on the SB for bio filtration? if not ( you have a sump full of rock ) vacuum away. if so just do a section at a time every water change as said before.

Hi no i dont have a sump its a nano reef only 46l so i am rely on the SB for filtration. Why should you vaccum a deep sand bed?

I have a deep sand bed . I've read enough times not too disturb it because deeply. As far as dirty sand if you are talking about the surface gunk...i finally purchased a worthy cleanup crew for my size total volume water and my sand now and rocks are spotless . Good cleanup crew saved me and my sanity. My sand is super white like a beach, now. Only thing I clean is glass occasionally .

If you see detritus buildup on the sand and around rocks sure vacuum it up just don't disrupt the entire sand bed.

You don't want to disrupt a deep (6") sand bed it is designed to process the detritus.

I got a tiger tail and it stays within sand . I've never seen it since putting it in. I also have a sand sea star. And various snail and crab
