Sand bed depth for a peacock?

Well I am thinking I am going to have to add more substrate to make the sand bed deeper. Last night I noticed he was hitting the bottom of the tank. He does have pvc home for a burrow, but he was digging and hitting in front of his entrance.

My question is, should I make the sandbed deeper? Or does someone have a better suggestion?
The tank has a tempered bottom and he is only four inches. I know he is still to small to do any damage.

I think I would add about an inch of sand and If you're really worried about it, I'd line the bottom and sides with acrylic. I don't think he is big enough to break tempered glass, but if he is that persistent, I don't know.

A deeper sand bed, 2-3 inches would probably be appreciated. JUst make sure the animal isn't burying food.

If I add more sand, which would be better choice? Black moon sand or crushed coral? I do have a small piece of plexi about 1/8" thick. Would that be thick enough?

I would go with oolitic black or (moon sand) just pref. It is really pref. at this point. Though I wouldn't worry to much with the acrylic. You can line it with acrylic but that is usually if the tank is 15 gal or less. Glass diameter or thickness is less.

Are peacocks capable of breaking 1/4" tempered glass? I might go with two part moon sand and 1/2 to 1 part crushed coral as long as it doesn't make to abbrassive for my mantis.

Crushed coral is way too abrasive for burrowing species like O. scyllarus. Oolitic or mixed size aragonite sand, or tahitian moon are fine choices.

They are (capable) of cracking glass, but that is not common and is usually prompted by outside interaction. Keep him well fed and and give him plenty of live rock rubble and he should be ok.

He has plenty of lr rubble and a few large empty snail shells. I have been noticing the last couple days he seems to be stiking more. Tonight he is stricking a large rock in front of his burrow. Does this mean possibility of getting closer to molting? Or just searching for food? I rotate between krill and silversides every three days. He also has a couple of crabs to go after if he can catch them when they come out at night. I haave yet seen him take out any of the snails that is in there with him.
