Sand clouding tank.

Hi , my tank is about a month old, it has fine live sand in it .The hermit crabs seem to kick up the sand and make the water hazy. I was told not to rinse the sand before putting it in the tank. Will the sand always haze the tank or will it eventually bind together as it gets older?

so today my tank is already clearing up a lot on its own. i would say its cleared up 50% and i hope by tomorrow it will be all the way cleared up but i still do have some foam around the top of the water edge, i did not ever have anything in this tank and this is my first time having water in it. my buddy did a water change and gave me 30 gallons of water. i trust his, he has a hearty tank. he also gave me his sea urchin since it loves to reorganize his tank and it drives him nuts. I picked up 40 gallons of live sand from a friend of his and rised it throughly with water. is it ok to use hose water or should i have RODI water for this to?

You should use RODI water, but I used sink water to clear up my sand with fine particles >^>... If you rinsed it, it probably doesn't contain much bacteria anymore, but it will cycle back. ^^ to clear up fogginess you could use a product called "clarity" it binds to the extra fine particles and makes them stick to your filter.
It worked wonders for me when my tank clouded up, but I haven't used it recently due to not wanting to loose bacteria in my filter.

Your sand will most likely act up when it's disturbed, but you could also buy a thicker filter pad, filter floss..? It looks like a piece of felt lol. It will also help pick up smaller particles.

^^ I've been dealing with my dumb fine sand for a while

You also might be going through a bacterial bloom. Happen to me about a month into cycling. My water was very hazy. From what I read it was pretty common and would go away on its own.

Had this on an earlier tank where I used very fine sand. You could also try a spare pump with some filter floss wrapped around it . Just keep changing the floss and it should clear up quickly. using fine sand I think you are always prone to getting particles in the water though ( Very annoying ). In the end I added some coarser sand and slowly filtered out the fine stuff, it also helped damp things down

I had the same issue. I used a combination of live sand and dry sand. I rinsed the dry sand (but apparently not well enough). Tank was cloudy for two days and every time I moved something it clouded up again. So I bought some filter floss to trap the small particles and arranged it on my outlet tube sort of like a filter sock. Has worked wonders!

I keep stirring up the sand to get as much small dust out as I can.

The joys of fine sand. It will clear up but will continue fogging up the water when you disturb it for a while.

Yea my buddy sent me to a guy who had sand for sale, and he told me to do that. when i told my buddy he just shook his head in shame. Learned the hard way. But now i know for future reference to not rinse LIVE SAND that it is live and has bacteria for a reason

After your cycle is complete, and all that fine sand is coated in bacteria, it will stick together like gangbusters.

When i had sand in my display i keep a bottle of this around... Like a cap full per 10 gallons if i remember correctly. 1 hour later it will be clear... It basically helps he fine particles suspended in the water column bind together so they are heavy enough to sink
Carib sea puts a small packet of this in most of there Live sand bags now days...

I Do not like using chemicals in my Tank But i did use this when i had sand and no ILL effect .....
