need help.. what fish eats or cleans detritus?

any other things that sift and eat this?

currently... shifting from fowlr to reef that is why
i removed the hermits... they destroyed a coral already

I'm getting some Nassarius Snails for this same reason. They eat detritus and burrow in the sand. I hope my LFS comes through and gets some in for me this week.

A Orange Diamond Goby will sift the sand. If you get this guy you will want to make sure you have a top or screen over your aquarium, he is a jumper like all gobies.

we have a green brittle starfish (these are not reef safe) in our sump which does a good job eating all the detritus down there!

regards

excuse my ignorance, but what is detritus?

de·tri·tus
â€"œnoun
1. rock in small particles or other material worn or broken away from a mass, as by the action of water or glacial ice.
2. any disintegrated material; debris.

usually a general reference to wastes collecting in the tank, either from rock or fish poop or whatever.

should I put snails in both sump and tank both?

You can if you want, I personally don't have any snails in my sump because I don't care if algae grows on the glass down there.

Nor fish safe, are quite predacious.

I have Nas. snails that do a good job until they are eventually eaten by my hermits. Also I have a Serpent Sea Star, Fancy Tiger-striped that does a bang up job at night. He may eat some pods also, But I have alot.

do asterea clean the sand?

No. They stick to the rocks & glass, and really seem to try to avoid the sand. Nassarius snails do a good job on the sand.

the crabs were ok for the sand... they stir it up all the time... they were great for me until i added corals

ok, sorry to bust in, but I have , like tons of hermite crabs! wahtdid they do to your corals? should I start to panic?I have corals, no problem so far
